Keyboarding/Computer Applications K-14 Scope and Sequence

Input technologies have expanded to include handwriting recognition, voice recognition, and scanning that require students to acquire new skills to use these applications. To help instructors prepare students to compete in a modern digital world, the development of a Scope and Sequence for Keyboarding and Computer Applications is the focus of this project. The scope and sequence will provide teachers with the competencies that should be included in their curriculum to progressively develop the student skills needed to advance them to the next level, and guidance as they work to see that students progress at a steady pace throughout their education.

The scope and sequence development draws upon an advisory committee knowledgeable in keyboarding and computer applications, scope and sequence plans from other states, and the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for students K-12. A crosswalk between the Scope and Sequence, the Missouri Show-Me Standards and the National Standards for Business Education will also be developed. Ultimately, this scope and sequence will assist students to develop skills that should articulate with two-year college and/or dual credit courses.

Missouri Center for Career Education staff includes Terri Fayle, Project Director, Research & Curriculum Specialist; Dr. Larae Watkins; Mr. Donald Scott; and graphic production personnel.
