Welcome
A majority of students reaching their senior year in high school have little idea what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Even if they think they do, most likely, their view of the world of work is fairly limited. They think in broad terms of engineer, doctor, lawyer, or business person. It goes without saying, the world of careers is much larger. Opportunities abound for young people today, but students must be aware of them and know how to prepare for them.
Exploring Career Clusters provides an organized method for students to experience, through a hands-on authentic scenario, real-world occupations. Most importantly, Exploring Career Clusters provides a process for students to connect personal and educational requirements to real-world occupations. By giving students the opportunity to role play authentic occupational tasks, they are exposed to many of the job skills and knowledge needed. This exposure helps to connect the formal training of schools subjects to the world of work throughout life.
Please take time to read the "course overview" materials closely. It is important to maintain the integrity of the course structure. Using individual activities or lessons out of context will not achieve the desired outcomes of this course. Students who complete this course in its entirety will be aware of their opportunities and the requirements needed to pursue those opportunities - students will be able to make informed decisions and good choices for career preparation.
