Course Expectations

Upon satisfactory completion of the New Teacher Institute, participants will begin to be able to:

  1. Adapt existing curriculum for use in the career education classroom;
  2. Prepare lesson plans as part of a course of study;
  3. Demonstrate techniques and methods of presenting technical and related information from a lesson plan;
  4. Understand the function of the state department of education, Division of Career Education, in relation to the local school system;
  5. Undertand the professional responsibilities of the career educator;
  6. Select and organize course content;
  7. Manage a classroom;
  8. Explain the role, function and development of the advisory committee in career education;
  9. Explain the role and function of Career and Technical Student Organizations and their activities as an integral part of classroom instruction;
  10. Formulate and implement plans for student recruitment, guidance and placement;
  11. Plan instruction for special needs learners.
